DOTHAN, Alabama, October 21, 2016:
Selma Street Elementary students are eagerly awaiting a special day with the women who have given them so much in their short little lives. Bright Key Selma Street is hosting “Muffins with Moms on Tuesday, October 25 at 8:45 am at the school. Kindergarten and first graders get to start their school day with the favorite ladies in their lives, share breakfast together and enjoy a brief program.
“Honoring the dads at our “Donuts with Dads” event was just a few weeks ago and it was an incredible experience. Now it’s the moms’ turn,” says Bright Key Resource Coordinator Jennifer Campbell. “The kids are truly looking forward to spending quality time with the special women in their lives. It’s important that moms and children get some carefree downtime together and we love facilitating that through this Bright Key program.”
During breakfast, Precious Freeman, a public speaker and community philanthropist, will share some encouraging and challenging words with the moms and students. “Because of work and other circumstances, we knew not every child would have a mom or grandmother there so we invited the Dothan Police and Fire Departments and students from the medical college to be stand-ins,” says Campbell. “We don’t want anyone left out and we’re so grateful for these folks,” she adds.
Others from the Wiregrass are also pitching in. The Episcopal Church of the Nativity and ACOM students are volunteering and Harvest Church and Cogito Mental Health Services are sponsoring the event.
ABOUT BRIGHT KEY™
Bright Key®, a concept turning public schools into energized centers for services by adding programs focusing on the whole child, including his/her school, family and community, was approved in 2014 by the Dothan City School Board. The school meetings are structured to allow the stakeholders to express what programs and opportunities they believe are needed for their child and its school.
