On Feb. 17 the Wiregrass Foundation and Dothan City Schools approved Bright Key®, a concept turning public schools into energized centers for services by adding programs focusing on the whole child, including his/her school, family and community. Highlands Elementary, Grandview Elementary and Selma Street Elementary were selected to pilot the program.
The Wiregrass Foundation and Dothan City Schools recently named Melanie Hill, Dothan native and Dothan City Schools graduate, as program developer for Bright Key®. Hill will be instrumental in partnering with organizations and other community members to bring needed programs to the schools. Hill comes to Bright Key® with an extensive background in marketing, operation and sales training and educational consulting. She and her husband are active members of First Baptist Church.
“I am extremely passionate about Bright Key® and believe it will be a positive addition for Dothan City Schools,” says Hill. “I am honored to be able to work with the wonderful faculty and staff at our schools, and cannot wait to see all of the wonderful things Bright Key® will do for our students.”
Hill will be presenting the schools with their Bright Key® banners the week of March 30. Banner presentation dates and times are as follows:
Selma Street Elementary: Tuesday, March 31 at 10:15 a.m.
Highlands Elementary: Tuesday, March 31 at 11 a.m.
Grandview Elementary: Wednesday, April 1 at 10 a.m.
Meetings at the schools are currently being scheduled for students, families and community members to meet Hill and learn more about Bright Key®. Additional school meetings will be scheduled to hear current needs from the parents and other stakeholders involved. The process will not be rushed and each school may move at a different pace.
